I'm getting a bike soon (I hope) but haven't yet found out if insurance is compulsory for a bike in Florida. Someone told me it isn't, another told me you need liability. I understand you need at least $10,000 in medical coverage if you want to ride without a helmet (personally I will always wear one, it looks better and is safer). Any of you florida riders know what the actual law is?
Thanks

I don't know for sure, but I can't imagine a state without laws for mandatory liability. You could call the state cops, or check the Secretary of State's website.

short answer ....

insurance is ALWAYS required ...... by common courtesy and mature responsibility if not law

we don't need irresponsible uninsured a**holes on bikes running into cars and things
and jacking up insurance rates for everyone else

I think only in Flordia & the Washington DC area is it not compulsory to have insurance. Still I stand corrected & am only going on some decussions last yr about m/c insurance on another m/c board.

Here in Washington State you don't have to have insurance of any kind to ride a motorcycle (doesn't stop me from getting full coverage).

Thanks for the correction as I understood it was Washington DC & now you point out it is Washington State.

Law or not, get liability coverage. Else if you get into a twist-up and are found to be at fault, you can and most likely will be pulled into civil court. No one wants that.

Besides, as has been pointed out already... it's the Right Thing To Do.
