|I just read an article on this in Cycle World magazine, August 2003.|
They suggest installing a lowering link if your bike has a linkage suspension, and recommend www.koubalink.com or, if your bike does not have linkage, the suggestion is to have a specialist actually shorten the shock. The front end is lowered by simply sliding the fork tubes up in the triple clamps.
Rather than do all that, I'd look into either cutting down the seat (should get you an inch or more easily) or, even easier, look into some thick-soled boots like the ones Bluepoof wears (they're made specifically for this purpose--you'd have to pm her for the brand, etc.).
Lastly, and cheapest/easiest, tell her to suck it up. I'm pretty short myself, and I'm almost always on tippy-toes on bikes, but I just don't even notice it--it's just part of life. Teach your wife (I know, I know...) to stop with one foot on the brake pedal and only put one foot down, as this reduces the problem over trying to get both feet to the ground--this advice may not be as well suited to dual-sports as street bikes, but it's worked for me on my "enduros."

|I'm trying to find a way to shorten the seat height on a recent-model dual purpose bike for my wife to ride. Shortest we've found is a TW200 at 30.5 inches, but we need to get down to about 29 inches to be comfortable. Any ideas anyone?|
