Kevin Duke just put the finishing touches on his 2005 Yamaha R6 First Ride. Don't settle for shabby imitation reports, get the indepth first look here at MCUSA. Allright, by show of hands, who wants one?

Go ahead, ask me anything.

It's a sweet bike even the way it was. But, I don't want one. Need a bigger bike for 2Up.

The new Yamaha R6 is still sexy as ever. Yamaha's have always made their sport bikes look good. A person can defiantly tell making these bikes for street ridings was an afterthought. I may be wrong in saying this, but there is such a thing as a too rigid ride. That’s not what these bikes are made for. They are made for hauling ass at the track, and that they do well.

Every newbie squid will have one by the end of the year.. I rarely ever see anything from Yamaha at trackdays.. But you can find them at the local squid hang out.. Guess this is one of the reasons why I pass up Yamaha and Suzsucki when shopping for a new ride..

eh? I didn't even know that Mr. Anniston was a rider let alone a good rider so I'm not sure if this is an endorsement...

Ouch, Suzuki rules!! lol I saw more 600rr's this summer under the squiddys, back to the thread, the R6 looks sweet, not a yamaha guy though(see above) I think the Big japan four have all put up great bikes in the last few years and its hard to pick one. I like squid leftovers(salvage bikes) and the gsxr is the way to go if this is how you can afford to ride, do a search for gsxr on e-bay wow....

I have been looking at the R6's for the past year. When I went into the dealer to talk turkey and sit on one they were all gone. Now the modified 05's are out and looks like I may have found my first bike. Im thinking the Raven color.

All of the six hundreds for the 2005 look good but kawasaki has made the greatest change from 2004 to 2005. The R6 still looks the same (even though I do like the all black one), the gixxer is the uglest bike available with the one light in the front (tht fucked the bikeup), and the Honda is just a Honda (they need a better color selection). Go with the 2005 kawa, 37 more cc's and an undertail exhaust, plus more HP. Sweeeeeeeeeeeet!!!!!

The Kawi is sweet ! I owned a 2004 636. Fast as all hell but the throttle response is very touchy and the suspension needed tons of tweaking for the track. I can't wait to see the new CBR 600rr. Tons of motor tweaks and radial brakes for 05! As for Suzuki well They are ugly as sin and they look like they where built from an Erector set.

I must agree that the Kwacker have made a very impressive change to the better. Hope to gosh nothing goes wrong for they are on the way to batteling it out with Suzy to even be snipping at the rear of Yamaha in sales.

Remember all the others on the road are crazy & out to kill you.

Isn't that what the article said about the new R6?  I'm just wondering because I'm considering a new bike.  I've been researching the bikes for quite awhile, and now Yamaha steps up and updates the R6, giving me more info to consider.  I just wish dealers would allow test rides.

I swear I've seen that bike on the track at Putnam Park in Indiana.  That tapeover job on the headlights stuck in my mind.

Honda was the only I4 I ridden with a smooth throttle response. I remeber getting my glove binded on the throttle on the 636 as I was trying to relaz my grip I blipped the thottle and almost got my ass planted.. so be careful.

i have a black 2005 r6 and its sweet. i like the feel u get while riding and the rider position is key. when i tuck, the wind goes right over me and keeps me warmer. the instument panel is also a great part of the bike; the tech is easy to read at a glance and the red black light is so sick. the throttle is a little bit harsh just like they mentioned in the street test on this site, but u get used to it. i think this bike is rediculously nice looking in the all black with the red pin stripes on the tires...i am glad i went with this bike. it was either a 636 or r6. i like the 636's bigger engine, but the windscreen was really low and didn't look like it'd protect from the wind and the tech...what the hell is up with that? u have to stare at it for like 4 seconds before u can tell how engine speed. don't get me wrong, kawi made some sick changes that produced a really nice bike, but i am happy with my buy.

As a rider of a 2005 R6 I gotta say... I SPANK a lot of Suzukis and Kawasakis as well as others. PLUS, if you bought a 636 and ever want to race the AMA 600 Sport Bike Class... you might get a favorable trade-in on an R6. ALSO, for those who claim all the "squids" will have one, let me guess... your rainy day ride is a Camaro, Firebird or Mustang. This thing is not a "me too" ride even straight out of the box. Absolutely stock, I did a 100+mph in the 1/8 mile and an ET into the high 10's in the 1/4 mile! My suggestion to clear the gene pool of "me too squids"... GYT-R V-stacks, TiForce full exhast, K&N air filter and DynoJet Power Commander PCIIIUSB with Quick Shifter Assembly. THEN, you could do a tail light integrator, flush mount front turn-signals, race cowl, crash kit (frame sliders, bar ends and spools) and a CF windscreen for your race # so it looks just as fast in the pits as it does on the track. Regardless, on the highway... it's a blurr. I don't do "cruise nights" or "hang-outs". I'd rather be racing!
Just my 2 cents.
