Only days after its European debut, the 2009 GSX-R1000 made its first appearance on American soil in Las Vegas last night during Suzuki's annual dealer show. Lighter, more compact, and powerful as ever, what do you think of the new Gixxer Thou?

Looks like a blast to ride, but they're still taking backwards steps in the styling department.

The GSX-R R&D team needs to take a model year off. Guess they didn't like Honda sweeping the comparos.
Seriously awesome bike just gets better and better. I dig how the suspension and engine internals and dimensions keep getting redisigned to be even more all business. Sorry but the cans and huge ram air inlets are butt fugly in the pics. And yet another new acronym from Suzuki, lol. Surely we're looking at a higher-than-average price increase, IMO.

Liking the white.

Better power, lower weight, better brakes and suspension?

Yikes.

Faster and uglier. Why not, for once, faster and better looking?

unlike the r1, i actually like this gixxer better than the previous gen.  however, the best gixxer 1k was the 05'-06' in terms of looks imo.

I am an avid Suzuki supporter, and I was worried they might dissapoint me with their 2009 effort. They haven't, and I'm really happy about that. Looks like I won't be purchasing the new R1 anymore, but can continue my love affair with Suzuki.

I like the design changes, as they relate to how the bike promises to work. The air scoops in front (and the headlight) confuse me, maybe after I see that in the flesh, I'll have an opinion one way or the other.

I'd have to see the front end in real life to decide whether I like it or not. I really hate the pipes, though...but that would be changed, anyway.

I feel that the pipes flow with the lines of the bike now a little better. Still wide and heavy looking, but a little better. I like the look of the front-end. Single unit headlamp with adjacent intakes. Like the R-1, but not as hideous.

I like how the pipes are shaped. More fluid. Anythink beats the New ZX10 pipe.

I too think the pipes look awful. But who knows - these things often look different in pesrson. The 08 Kawasaki pipes look a lot better on the bike than they do in photos. And the peg pipe on the 750 and 600 Gixxers look great in real life (at least to me). In fact, the all black 08 GSXR750 is a bit of a high water mark for Suzuki styling in my opinion.

Among the 1000s, yes...the new ZX-10R's pipe is hideous. The pipe I hate most among sportbikes now are the K8 GSX-R600/750's. It's a gigantic leaf blower (and the ZX-10's is a chrome bull horn). But I think for me the shape of the new pipes are actually what I dislike most...the way they swoop like that just doesn't look right to me.

I personally think the best looking 1000 for 09 is the new R1...but a lot of people aren't going for it. I'm not planning on getting a 1000 anyway (not yet), so it really doesn't matter for me :p

Hideous pipes?

I like the flowing pipes on the new GSXr's though...and, thankfully, they're not under the seat!

Black and yellow is by far the best colours for a GSXR. Unfortunately, they only brought that combo out for 2006. I missed out.

You don't get better than that. I had to settle for dark grey and silver.

Wow, there is a bunch of reviews in different mags putting the GSXr750 up against all sorts of bikes, bigger and smaller...and the 750 always wins.

The latest motomag victory for the Gixxer 750?

KTM RC8 in Cycle World.

Chaos, you SURE you wanna trade that thing in on a literbike?

If not for the current financial climate I might consider trading my old TL1000S in for a 750.

Yep, prior to the RC8, it was the 848 falling, in IIRC, BIKE or T.W.O. magazine.

C'mon GAJ, your TL in current form is hot but you only live once and the gixxer seven-fiddy is calling your name.

Yep, I just have to have that litre bike GAJ. We live 5500 ft above sea level, and naturally aspirated engines lose a good 15% of their power up here. The bike is still plenty fast, but it lacks that gut wrenching acceleration. I might get another 750 a few years down the line though. Who knows.

Well, based on your love of the once in a while street race...you might be a lot safer on a thou to avoid being taken out by one trying to pass you on your 750.

It's actually a smart SAFETY move on your part. smilewinkgrin

Good point, GAJ. We need to help each other here.

"Honey, I am always 10 minutes late to work - you know 10 minutes every day is $......
so you see I need a GSX-R1000."

And a steady stream of new tires. Man O Man do those tires disappear on a liter riden like a liter can be riden.
