Take a peek at the 2008 Star Raider - First Look article and give us your take on its new cruiser platform. | | Back to Top

I really like the looks from the seat forward. The front wheel, especially, looks real nice. The tank is gorgeous. Unfortunately, the rear end is a mess. The swingarm looks hideous - they should have gone with a tradional softail - and the fender looks like a tradional HD bobtail fender mounted at a goofy downward sloping angle (hope the accessory catelog offers a different fender). I hope that passenger pillian is removable because it looks completely out of place. The price puts it squarely into American Big Twin territory with the Dynas and the 8-Balls, which seems to be a recent trend with the metrics. I don't think going to toe-to-toe with the MoCo has been a winning strategy yet for any of the Japanese manufactorers. But this just might be the model that pulls it off and if Star can do it, more power to them. I'm sure there will be multiple comparison road tests with this and the HD Rocker. Should be very interesting. | | Back to Top

A single front brake rotor to show off more of that front wheel would have looked cooler. The faux chrome on the tank spoils an otherwise clean line and nice shape there. | | Back to Top

It's got a couple of odd styling touches, but it looks like a totally righteous ride. Perhaps the styling is not as well integrated as some, but that big honkin' Roadliner engine should significantly outpower similar bikes from Wisconsin and Minnesota. (Actually, you can probably get a CVO Harley that will perform the same -- for about 25 grand.)
I'll have to see how my finances stack up next year, because I'd love to give everyone a ride report of this. | | Back to Top

It's a great look, but not chopped or custom looking as far as I know what that means. | | Back to Top

A Zilla size engine, tons of leg room and Stars usual factory slam concerning chrome everything! 1300$ msrp? Just stop looking to replace my 2001 30 thousand mile V Star (Zero Problems) 1100! Hell, for the price....I'll buy the wife a V Star 1300 Tour (4 Her handbag and stuff)d and get both rides for the price of a Full Dress Hog! | | Back to Top

But the Name Raider reminds me of those old Yammie PWC's from the mid 90's!! That kills it for me even tho I'm not in the Market for a New Bike, can't wait to see one up close. | | Back to Top

The Rocker seems to me the inverse of the Raider in that while the Raider looks great from the seat forward and hideous from the seat rearward, the Rocker has a great looking rear-end and a the most fugly gas tank and handlebars I've ever seen on a stock Harley. Maybe someone will chop the two together and come out with a stellar bike. | | Back to Top
