Gas Gas, known throughout the world mostly as a trials bike manufacturer, also has some serious off-road weaponry. Our contributor gets his first taste of the 2006 Gas Gas 300 DE in race conditions. Check it out.

I had a 2001 Gas Gas 300. Loved the bike. Last two stroke bike I have owned. If ever decided to go back to the two-stroke Gas Gas would be the one! Great write-up, keep them coming!

So sweet. I love seeing these exotic European off-roaders. With 4-strokes killing off the last remaining pre-mixers at the motocross track, it's nice to see that the lightweight machines still have a niche on the trails.

Who's Mark Kariya working for these days? Nice to hear he's still active as a motojournalist!

Gas Gas, from Spain with love, but the Euro is making them expensive...

I must admit the Gas Gas is a great looking bike and from your article it sounds like a real sweet ride. However for that kind of money a guy could buy a real nice Yamaha which is what the Gas Gas looks like anyway and have some cash left over for some of the after market stuff you might want.I'm not saying the bike's not worth the money but do we really need all that speed to ride John's Peak or any place else around here for that matter?Just my thoughts, just remember to have fun and keep the rubber side down. ;-)

Kariya is a freelancer, and to the best of my knowledge doesn't fly the flag of any one mag. We're pretty happy to have started working with him more, so stay tuned for more stuff from ol' Kato.

Hey, Pappy, good to see another new face around here. You make a good point about the money issue. It's something we're all concerned about, that's for sure. As far as, needing the speed here at John's Peak? All I can say is that I see an awful lot of 450's out there which I assume go just as fast. Personal preference I guess. What's your pleasure?

    Hey Hilde,

Thanks for the hello,I would have posted a lot more here but I've had so much fun just reading what's goin on with everyone else that it's been kinda nice just keepin my opinions to myself and just enjoying the web-site.However that really doesn't help the site much. You asked me what I liked to ride so I'll try to answer that one.Back when I was racing moto-cross I rode nothing but the Suzuki 250 for many years and I loved those bikes. Then in the mid 1980's,Oh I forgot to tell you I'm old but I figured my user name might give that away.Anyway,I broke my back which put an end to Moto-cross racing, sort of.

Once I was all healed up I got my first quad,a Honda 250 fourtracks I believe it was called and after riding the wheels off that little guy I decided to race Quads on the flat track because I new I could not handle any other type of racing because of my back.SORRY I'm taking so long here,I could go on for a long time but I'll shorten it up real quick.I ran a Suzuki 500 for 2 yrs.then switched to a much faster Polaris 400 Scrambler I think it was called. Then 3 more back operations put me in the saddle of a Polaris 250 Xplorer but I had to have more power so now I ride the Yamaha Grizzly 660 with 28" 589's for hunting and playing.I've got several dirt bikes setting in my shop that I'll be selling as soon as I do a little TLC.I have written all this to say,I love my little Xplorer but my hands down favorite is the Mighty GRIZZ!

Again I apologize for taking so much time and space on the site. That's why I don't write very often,I just get a little long winded some times. You all have a great day and remember, keep the rubber side down.
