The differences are much more than a discrepancy in power.
Elevated ground clearance and suspension travel and a shorter wheelbase indicate that the Husaberg is much more dirt oriented. It's nice to think that the big 950 is going to get dirt time, but in reality I suspect that it has a much higher street bias and is targeted for that use. An additional 175 pounds and over 1 degree less rake add more support to the street-biased theory.
Since pavement performance is what you are discussing I guess the lack of dirt application on the KTM isn't so important, but the fact that the Berg is derived from an enduro means there will be big differences once it takes to the canyon twisties. | | Back to Top

Either bike would shine in the twisties, but the Husaberg would freakin demand a nasty behavior get displayed (because it can). I mean, knarly bad boys can't help themselves on this, it's the very reason they became knarly bad boys, in the first place. However, getting to the twisties, would favor the KTM, so.......... kinda depends on where the rider lives, and how many bikes fit in the garage, and maybe, ability to trailer to the high country? If actual dirt is involved, the Husaberg wins, hands down. (still just guessing, on my part) Focus the forces, Be The Force | | Back to Top

I've never ridden a SM and a dirt bike only once, so I gotta find out from those who know. I'll likely only be interested in street performance around the city and the twisties on the way home. The KTM has great reviews for both, however it has a rather prohibitive price tag. Until I know I can do better for the money, it looks like the SV650 will be the bike of choice.... | | Back to Top

In europe KTM comes with a new 690SM with 65bhp..... The motor is an updated LC4 with balance shaft. Don't know if it comes to the USA too.
Link for dutch introduction but there are also some pictures.
