If you're a Lites class racer that eats, breathes and craps Suzuki then you've been dying to get ahold of this bike. Take a look at our first impression of the all-new RM-Z250 here.

You mention Hard starting in gear. I'm going to assume you also had a hard time starting in neutral???

Yeah, drtbag. I never had much luck starting the bike in any gear, running or not. There were a few times that I managed to light it right away, but out of a full day of starting, stopping, photo shoots, video work, lunch break... I sure kicked that thing a lot of times.

There's more important things to discuss here. Haven't any of you with RM-Z450s thought about what it would be like to ride a smaller version? Have any of you steel-chassis RM-Z owners tried to swipe your buddy's KX-F frame? Come on, there has to be some excitement about this bike. If you ride a 250F, this has a lot of impact on you buying options.

Sounds like Suzuki is catching up to the curve... I'm currently riding an '06 KX250F... from the looks of the two bikes, you'd think they were still related.

One note, you mentioned being 190lbs... was the suspension on stock settings besides the sag adjustment you mentioned? I'm 215lbs riding stock except for cranking the rear spring down a tad. It works out pretty well for me, how'd you feel the Suzuki did given that most stock 125/250F come typicaly set up for riders in the 140 to 150lb range?

By the way, and I'm sure you recall... the KX250F can darn near be started by hand... 98% of the time... the other 2% is when I've dropped it and it's flooded!

Nice write up. I have a question for one looking possibly to get back into a 'dirt bike' but not for 'motocross' reasons.

I started riding dirt bikes in 1982 on a wee little 50cc bike that had 3 gears with a pattern of 0 down and 3 up. Neutral was all the way down...that little thing would pull me (10 yo) and my older brother (14 yo) up the side of the mountain we lived on (West Virigina) like we were nothing. He joined the service in 1985...and in 1986 bought a 1987 DR 125 Suzuki for me to run ragged (gotta love a great brother like that!). I rode that thing for the next 3 years ALL over the woods...making trails before the 4-wheelers made their start where I grew up.

I wished then I'd had a 250cc bike for a little more umph, but didn't want a 'bigger' bike. Those 250cc bikes out there stand really high and I'm a relatively short guy (5' 8").

What's a good overall trail bike? I'm not looking to jump or race, just looking for something to bring back my teenage years of riding that DR through the woods. I'm about 70 pounds heavier (or more!) than I was then coming in now at around 230 (working to remove some of that) and looking for something fun to ride without the racing feeling to it.

Hey there, Gurski. I'm wrapping up our 2007 250F Shootout right now, but instead of spoilingit for everyone, you'll have to wait for it to come out on March 19. I'd recommend looking there if you can wait a couple weeks, you might be surprised about that RM-Z...
