It's that time again, the rains are here and the trails are open! We rode the new off-road offering from Yamaha on the California/Nevada border, and now we can't wait to get one back to the office. Check out our initial thoughts.

Well, we're a week away from hitting the Baja and we plan to bring back a load of off-road video from there. Hopefully that will keep you all entertained for a while!

Damn it, where'd Duke go now?

Well, I just picked up a new 2006 WR 450 and it feels great to ride. Really nice and easy to ride, but the engine isn't going to knock your socks off. Also, the initially starting isn't the best.

My question is: What modes are ppl using, how can I get a little more power from the engine while still trying to keep it realtively in stock form and quiet? How do I get the restrictive 1/2 throttle issue addressed? Is there a cost effective silencer for this bike yet and will if offer any improvements?

In short, I'm looking for any suggestions on how to get this thing set up affordably while still keeping it's stock form, if that makes any sense. I saw on the Yahamha website some sort of baffle insert for the stock pipe. Anyone have any experience with it or is it worthless.

If anyone wants to know anything about this bike, just let me know.

Thanks!

Rick

I also just purchased an '06 WR450-F and have ridden it twice.  First impression was what a guttless piece of S**t!  I have read numerous articles on how wonderful this bike is and after riding it I wondered what the heck are they talking about, this couldn't be the same bike!  That was until I removed the AIS (Air Induction System), I purchased a removal kit made by GYTR for $39.95 and followed the instrutions and now I have a real woods bike.  Best $40 I ever spent, it is a totally different engine now.  I can't believe that anyone would ride one of these in a stock form, no fun at all.  I don't know if all WR450's have this system, I live in Oregon and i know that they have the "Green Sticker" rating for California which means they have to restrict the engine to meet Federal standards. It was choked down quite a bit and felt constipated to ride, but not anymore!

Hi all, I just ordered a WR450F.
How much kilometers will you run-in the bike before go for offroad?
What protective parts do i need to install?  skid plate, hand guard,....?
What stock parts that I need to remove to de-restrict the power?
THX!!!
