When Robbie Maddison made history on New Year's Eve in Vegas, MotorcycleUSA was there taking in the revelry of the 2008 Red Bull Experiment. How do you think Maddison's jump ranks in the annals of high-flying, daredevil motorcycle riding?

Even though Robbie made the jump look easy ... It wasn't just about getting on a bike and doing a jump but ... the month's of research, calculations, practice, set up, preparation, mental coaching and it ALL PAID OFF. Obviously it has different elements on how it had been done in the past - and thank goodness because nobody wanted to see him hurt. It was thrilling and electrifying when he attempted it the second go, even though his fiancee looked very concerned. By all accounts he shouldn't have even jumped the first time due to the wind being up around 13mph. We should relish in what we have learnt from the likes of Evel Knievel and it is great putting this new knowledge into practice and now testing how far man (Robbie) can go on a motorbike or what other past failures can now be realised. What is even greater is that this boy actually respects Evel Knievel, has the same name as Knievel and has been welcomed into the Knievel family. I think this jump has put long distance jumping and daredevil motorcycling back on the map and we can look forward to the re-berth of our modern day Evel Knievel - MADDO! The important thing is to keep it safe. We watched the documentary on ESPN and congratulations to everybody - including commentary, interviews etc as the show was exhilirating from start to finish. The one thing that did shock me was the carpark (poles etc) that Robbie had to avoid and how he basically had to turn a corner in the car park before he hit the ramp. Incredible, when does it come out on DVD!!!!
