With the keys to a 2008 Honda Gold Wing and two days to spare, we chart a course through Oregon's Columbia River Gorge and up the regal Mt. Hood.

Good report. For Your sake, I hope you get to explore farther, around there, some time. (and many times).

The Water falls are exploding in the late spring Snow melt run-off, and the Fruit tree blossoms at Hood river are stunning when at their peak. And Turning South down 97 to go through Warm springs and Bend and Sisters and the Volcanic scenery is some of America's best.

Oh, while in the Gorge, there is a Historic Hotel at Carson (Washington side) that has Mineral hot bath houses (Men and woman are seperate) that is a memorable experience.

Nice
I especially liked this line:
"I barely get it into sixth gear before reaching Bonneville Dam."

I never could get my Wing 1800 into 6th gear either...

For those that don't know, the Wing does not have a 6th gear. It's a 5 speed box.

Desmo - are you sure u aren't Kevin Duke in disguise? Nobody catches my blunders like he did except you. You get my vote for honorary editor. Sorry, it's a voluntary position only, so we can't cut u a check, but thanks for catching my gaffe. I've been riding so many different bikes lately all the cogs and trannys are starting to blend into one.

Hey Lou, I wished I had more time to check out the Washington side. I hear it's spectacular in its own right. I did notice that there are a ton of wineries and vineyards sitting right on the banks on the Washington side. Would've loved to have included it, but only had two days to spare.

Harley, I really dig these articles. Are they going to be in the magazine?

Yes Desmo, this story, Bart's Blues Highways, Ken's Kauai Adventure and the Trans America Trail story are in this quarter's MotoUSA magazine. The text is the same, but we get to add more photos to the online version.

The main thing is You got a good taste of the Gorge.  And you know it's there waiting, if you can do it again, and take in things that had to be passed by before.

I was very fotunate to live in Portland (and Vancouver Washington) over a 17 year period, so it was right at my doorstep, and just a few free hours, made a sweet loop on a nice day.
