I was looking to buy a scooter next spring and I was wondering if there are nice 50cc sport scooters are sold here in the US?

Since Yamaha and Aprillia both have US dealer networks, its simply a matter of finding the dealer that carries the product line.
But, in the US, if the scooter is over 49cc and can exceed 35 mph, it has to be licensed. So why just go for one of the 250cc scooters?

That is the downfall of 49cc scooters in this area of Canada. The max speed limit on the hwy is 100KPH or 60mph.
Most cannot ride on hwy 97 that cuts through some towns or cities, but no one wants to insure & license the scooter which is the same as riding a m/c.
Also on Hwy 97 often some of the hill climbs are to much for 49cc, so really one has to look more seriously at a 125 to 250cc or even larger engine. Tack on the fact that most do not have a DL for a cage, let alone a m/c license & so the reason for the 49cc two stroke.
A few yrs ago I noted an elderly woman holding a 49cc scooter & the RCMP Constable was telling her why the 49cc scooter cannot be used from this town to Penticton & back again, to also the steep hill to the business section of the Summerland town. Never seen the elderly woman since so many years ago & like many other 49cc scooters it is rusting in their yard or garage.
Remember all the others on the road are crazy & out to kill you.
