G'Day
Few photos of a recent trip to Roma in Queensland, Australia. Roma is about 515 klm West of Brisbane and is mainly flat wheat gowing country though they do have good numbers of cattle, kangaroos and snakes. I fair dinkum saw a dead roo beside the road that was as big as a small cow and that sure reminds you to slow down.

Roma is a small town with a population around 7500. Looking at the photos you will get an appreciation for how dry it is. The photos you see were taken in a huge headwind that saw the Triumph and Moto Guzi run into reserve long before we were due to hit the next town but luckily there was a fuel stop out in the middle of nowhere that saved our bacon. The Yamaha RSTD was likewise making really poor mileage in the headwind but we were not hurting for fuel.

The only moment on the way back was my brother in laws Triumph sheered a bolt holding the chain guard on causing it to drop onto the chain and then be pressed against the rear tyre - smoke everywhere and a panic stop but the tyre was ok to keep riding on for a while anyway.

A good life - thank you

Long road, no curves: good choice of bikes for that one. ;-)

Wow! You are definately from the Land Down Under.
One doesn't hear talk like that, even in Australian-made movies, here on this side of the Equator.  smilewinkgrin

Some of the old language is going out here but I am old enough to remember and still use it regularly.....fair dinkum! Some other gems are "Having a Dad and Dave" is a shave, going down the "Frog and Toad" is the road - so named because of the numbers of frogs and toads on the road and it rhymes - and the "Cheese and Kisses" is the Missus, "Trouble and Strife" is the wife and an "Optic Nerve" is a perve (or look).

Gaj, the road out to Roma is very straight along most of it but some twisties getting up to the Darling Downs up from Brisbane (a city of 2 million) that is controlled by one city council - apparently that is a bit unusual and your trivia for the day. A lot of the roads far out in the West are really straight. Your are right about the bike Cadd, the RSTD loves the open road and cruise is terrific in that environment. It handles the hot summer here really well.

I have only hit a roo once in a car and got lucky - hit it on the bottom of the bounce when it was firmly on the ground and luckily not in the centre of the grill so the radiator ended up being ok. It is not unusual for roos to cause many thousands of dollars damage and some have ended up in the car with the driver - they are a real hazard on our country roads particularly in drought time as the green grass on the road verges attracts them. I really hope not to hit one on a bike. I guess you have similar problems with deer in some parts of the USA? The histrionic press get all excited about us eating the damn things (roos) but not only are they in plaque proportions they are excellent eating with very lean meat.

Ride safe.

A good life - thank you

Speaking of twisties - may I suggest a look at the following link. I don't have any photos but it is a fantastic bike road, all sealed now and built by a Lions Club.

Man, hitting a Kangaroo sounds even worse than the ubiquitous deer here in the US...or do you have to worry about them also!

Strangely enough we do have a growing deer problem in the coastal hinterland areas, but nowhere near the problem yet that roos are.
